I have a 2001 F-350 with the 7.3 with 142,000 miles on it. The symptoms i am having are the trucks starts and runs fine at first then at intermitant times the check engine light comes on and the trucks power is severly reduced. The truck will correct itself after a few minutes but most of the time i just cut it off and restart it and it is fine for a few minutes or so till it does it again. It did this a year ago and i did nothing to fix the problem because out of no where it stopped for the past few months and then just started again. i have had the codes read and they said it could be a short in the UVH but i have check it and the connection was tight there were no burned pins and the wires looked in good shape. The dealership said that it could be the IDM but were very unsure. Please help point me in the right direction.
Yea and pulled the harness out and looked at the valve cover gasket to check everything out and it all looked good. Now I am not saying they are not the issue but everything looked in good shape
Also check the main wire harness that "lays" on top of the driver's side valve cover.. It has been reported to rub on the cover causing intermittent shorts. Put some harness wrap around it while you are checking it..
how are you driving the truck when this happins?????the truck will defuel @appx 22 psi of boost CEL light comes on and looses power..after a few minutes of easier driving all will be well..
I don't abuse the truck I drive it just as anyone would I never wind the truck up....sometimes it does it just sitting at a stop light and sometimes when I am just driving like I said it is very intermitant. No set time it does it
Did the problem start after Ford installed the new gray CPS? What fault codes are you getting ? Does it run rough when the CEL comes on ? Did you check the main wire harness that lays on the valve cover yet for rubbing ?
Yes it started after the recall, according to the dealership when they read the codes it was a idm issue and it says injector 5 failure, yea it only runs rough when the light is on but it has a tendency to clear up sometimes on its own, I have not had a opportunity yet to check that harness since that had been suggested
Check the main harness as suggected.. Also, I would suggest you start a new thread saying ... Need Help with Fault Codes.. Anybody near ".............." Va. With the exact fault code, we can figure this out..

I'm just gonna throw it out there again... I would try the CPS, thats what it sounds like.
Really tho, you should get it scanned by a good scanner like AE or Snap-On, etc, and go from there.
One of my Vans just had very similar symptoms that just preogressively got worse...In my case it was the IDM but their not usually the problem I've found personally...Used a SnapOn Solus to buzz test the injectors and a whole bank was shutting down, new IDM and all was good in this case but again, unless they are taking in water (this one did..) they are often replaced and NOT often the problem! I would just throw a CPS in it for kicks and if it ain't the problem you'll have a spare...you will eventually need it (good glovebox backup part ) The CPS can cause alot of intermittent gremlins.
