Hi everyone. I have a 1979 F250 with a straight 6. It has the odd 3-row radiator with a 19.25" core.
I took it to a local radiator shop and dropped it and a week later they quoted me in the $400's for a re-core. I had told them that I had found a super cooler on rockauto for $500 and then I found an aluminum Champion for $215. The guy got pissed off at me. Told me I might have the internet but that I don't know anything. Then I asked him if I bought the cheaper, easier to find 351 radiator, if it was possible to swap the lower tank or the outlet to the other side. He told me it was possible but that I didn't want to spend money and to basically take a walk.
My question is, is it possible to do that with the v-8 radiator? Thought it might be a possibility to save money. The dimensions look really similar.
Skip trying to modify a v8 radiator. The champion is cheap and plenty of people use them. The days of radiator repair on anything less than industrial or exotic are dead its not cost effective.

Yeah I actually ordered one last night. I was just shocked the guy got so bent out of shape when I asked him about it.
I kind of feel lucky that I found a 3 row all aluminum radiator, MADE IN THE USA, on eBay last year for $160. I have had 0 issues. Had to buy a better cap for it. Went with the Stant 13 psi.
I'm lucky and have a good radiator repair shop not far away 50701. Always lead me straight, told me if it was better to go new or repair, even recored a heater core for me once that wasn't available anywhere on the planet. They sold new and repaired. Price might have been a little more and I was ok with that, never had a problem. Maybe try another shop next time. Anytime someone at a business insults me it's an automatic no sale.
