trying to get my project to run before the coronation ends and I have hit a bit of a snag.
It is a 460 that I pulled out of a running truck, started just fine back then. Over 3 or 4 months I built up the motor and trans, reinstalled everything together and transplanted into my 76 swb 2wd that originally had a 351w. It is the same starter, block, trans and trans plate that worked back in May.
When I turn the key it just spins, and the bendix doesn't move rear and engage not even a bit. You can see it wiggle but doesn't shoot toward the flexplate. Ive pulled out the starter and checked it with jumper cables and operates fine. Put it back in and same thing, just spins, doesnt engage.
I tried using just cables like I did with it out, and again just spins, so cables and grounds are fine.
Any thoughts, have a feeling the starter is good and don't want to buy a new one to test that theory. But what could possibly stop it from moving when installed??
