I have recently purchased a ‘17 F-250 SD,Lariat, CC, 4x4, short bed with 84k on the clock. My primary question has to do with a tailgate lock...I cannot find a key way nor will it lock with the fob. Has the function been disabled? Or is there no locking mechanism present? Solution?
next question is RE: oil grade. I have plenty of 15-40 from my 99 7.3L, but specs call for 10-30; can I safely use 15-40?
The tailgate lock may have been disabled by the PO especially if the tailgate has the release option. Otherwise the tailgate should lock with the key fob. In regards to oil the 15w40 is fine and is shown in the manual as long as its on the approved oil list and CJ-4 not CK4.
I had a senior moment, shortly after getting my new 2019 F-350 Lariat, with a lot of custom bells and whistles. I went to the back of my truck to ensure that the tailgate was locked, after locking all of the doors with the auto-lock on the driver’s outside handle. While all of the doors were locked (my wife went around and checked them), the tailgate would open by pushing the release button on it. We were on a trip with our fifth-wheel, and I had a lot of stuff under the roll-up cover that I wanted to keep locked up. While checking out some of the local attractions, we came by a Ford dealer and stopped to see if they could help out. The guy came outside, confirmed that it wasn’t locking, and suggested that I might need to take it to my local dealer when we got back home.
Later in the day, upon return to our campsite, and taking a little time to think it through, I realized that it was working just as it should. I had the fob attached to my belt and, when I was standing next to the tailgate, the fob was allowing the lock to disengage. When I moved away and had my wife hit the release, it was locked, as it should have been.
Don’t know if that’s your issue, but it was a “Think about what you are doing” moment for me.
