2 of my coworkers have the same 2018 xlt and their gates have the auto lock. They tell me I do as well but either it don't work or I don't know what to look for. I have the wire harness that goes in the bottom of the tailgate but I thought that was just for the camera.I bought a new bed cover without the lock option because I thought I had the tailgate lock so unless I'm missing something I have no way to secure my bed items. Any advice?

If your doors on the truck are locked can you open the tailgate or do you need to press the door lock button to unlock the doors to get the tailgate to open?
Then you do not have the auto lock feature. If you did the tailgate would be locked when your doors lock, or yours is not working. Does your tailgate have a key lock in it?
If it is the push button release tailgate, it locks. If you have your keys in your pocket when you try to open the tailgate, it will automatically unlock. Lock the truck and leave your keys away from the truck and try your tailgate. It will be locked. 👍
my extremely base basic 2017 XLT (former enterprise rental) has the tailgate lock and unlock with the door locks, I would guess its a standard feature. I am thinking that the actuator is not working

I agree. I do not have the keyless entry on mine but it does lock and unlock with the door locks. I would have it looked at, at this point you have no way to lock it.
I took the panel off the tailgate and I saw the motor for it and its def not working. Not sure if its no power to it or the motor is bad. I tried to test the plug to no avail. I'll get a new motor and go from there. Just glad at this point I have the option of locking everything in the future with the new bed cover.
No I have not I just assumed since the rear camera was working the harness was plugged.Dealer service backed up wanted to keep my truck for min 3 days for a 10 min job. Thats no good for me so I ordered the 54 dollar actuator it will be here tomorrow so fingers crossed.
My truck came with 2 or 3 plugs that go into the truck's harness for whenever the tailgate is removed. So my assumption is there is more than one connector feeding the tailgate. Mine is keyless, has the back-up camera and LED hitch light.
Have you crawled under your truck to ensure the tailgate harness is still connected to the truck's harness?
Well folks we have a winner!! I won't hide my stupidity in hopes it may help someone else. After I paid the 50 bucks and put the new actuator in nothing zero zilch nada. Then and only then for some dumb reason I decided to crawl under the truck and find the plug not even connected. Ugh. There was a cap in the plug it had never been connected. Life never fails to teach us lessons. Thanks to everyone with all the feedback........
