Damn it, this thing never quite breaking! I am gonna order a new water pump, but what should I do since I am gonna have to tear this thing apart. Gonna get upper and lower hoses, thermostat, new belt, what's else? Since its apart, I should do all I can without breaking the bank.
I will say, I assume it's the water pump. Had a post earlier today that I thought it was the outlet tube for the heater core. I bought a new one of those, and have it on hand. When it is running it doesnt leak at all. When I shut it off I can see it drip off the bottom of the harmonic balancer at a fairly good rate of dripping, not pouring... can it be anything else? Its tight to see up and around the front of the engine.
Well I can think of a few little items.
How do you feel about installing bearings in all the pulleys? It's not a hard job and is a lot less than new ones.
I would do both idlers and the two on the tensioner. You don't want to touch the compressor bearing. I found
that the bearing costs more than the part from Ford. It's also very easy to bend that one do to the way it's
staked in place.
After that hoses and that O-ring on that tube you asked about in the other thread if it's easy to pull out.
I had a shop RTV that pipe in place and talk about a PITA to get it out. I got lucky and no corrosion at all.
The O-ring that was in it was so flat I can see why they has a leak from it. Just don't see why then did
not just replace the silly O-ring. I went back and had a little chat with the service manager. He offered
me a job. I said thanks but no thanks I don't work by the job. I said you pay me by the hour and we can
talk more. It was a Ford shop so you know how far that went. I do think someone got chewed over it.
Oh two other O-rings, Both block drains should also be done if you are doing a flush while you there.
Mine had both the o-ring and silicone. I think they have a tendency to leak and the techs add some reinforcement. The way they corrode I think the o-ring has a hard time sealing the pits over years.
Yes, I ordered both new idler pulleys, a new tensioner, belt, thermostat, water pump, upper and lower hoses, and have that heater hose outlet tube too. Anything else I forgot?

No, I didnt forget that! I have a fridge in my garage...I'm good! But, have learned to try and hold off drinking as long as possible since that liquid refreshment does sometimes impede with your final results.
Got it all done!! Nee everything on the front of the engine so I dont have to go back into it hopefully for a long time! New idler pulleys, new tensioner, new belt, thermostat, upper and lower hoses, new water pump of course. The radiator was DIRTY! Sprayed it off with Simple Green when it was out a few times and hosed it off, and got all the crap off and it flows water now through the fins(which means the air wasnt flowing through either). Seems to be running cooler now. Will do another back flush again this week... just have plain water in it now. Gonna backflush again, fill it with acid for a day, then flush with distilled 4 times and go back to ELC. Thank you for everyone's help. I followed the write up that Bismic had on another forum and was ALOT of help!
I would not use acid.
I know that the two chemicals that are used for slushing one is acidic and the other is a base.
BUT I don't think you will be happy. I would take it to a shop and have them clean it. that way
if they screw it up they can fix the issue. The Ford radiator is getting hard to get and Ford won't
ship it because they almost always get to where they are going and 99.9995% of the time are broken.
