I have seen this done for oilfield trucks by the aftermarket and all of the DLC plugs were left disconnected and hanging.
I never followed the airbag situation closely Mark. My days of working in accident reconstruction are long, long gone.

Hmm. But why does an airbag controller need cooling fins?
The part is warm engine running.

At least what is shown are not cooling fins, the are structural supports for the mounting tabs. Probably die-cast and easily cracked with a bending moment.

I took a look and that is the air bag module.
The extra support is there as you don't want that little bomb
detonator bouncing around unless you want an air bag in
the face.
