Difference in Fox Shocks

I’m looking to upgrade the shocks on my 17 XLT with a set of Fox Shocks. I have no lift on the truck, so I’m looking at the 0-1.5 inch ones. While shopping around, I’ve come across Fox for BDS, and they are $90 a pair cheaper. Does anyone know why there is such a discrepancy in price between the regular 2.0 and the BDS ones?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave. I put Fox shocks on about 9 months ago on my 17 and had the same observation. I believe, and someone can correct me if I am wrong, that the BDS ones are the fox shocks for 2016- trucks revalved for 2017+. Fox later came out with 2017+ specific shocks. I got the Fox ones. Others on this forum had the BDS and can speak for them.

I asked Stage3 what the difference was for the Fox and BDS and they said the BDS was valved slightly softer and might be better suited for more highway use and the Foxes are more offroad. I bought those front and rear for a 2020. Rides decent for the price. My next set I'll likely look to upgrade to something in 2.5s.

Its the valving thats different. I would look at the Fox 2.5 shocks at minimum if spending the money. I am running 2.5 on my 20 and the difference over the 2.0 shocks is unbelievable especially the consistency of dampening which the 2.0 shocks would lack after a mile or two on a washboard road.

These are what I bought for stock height. https://www.shocksurplus.com/product...super-duty-4wd

Apparently the only difference between the 2.0 and the BDS is branding.

I almost bought the 2.0s for my 19’ but I’m going to hold off for the 2.5. I think these trucks are much for the 2.0s

When you say “ difference in valving” what is meant by that? Softer smoother ride? Less jumpy on secondary roads?

I ask bc I moved from a 2014 F150 157” SCREW to the 2019 F250 CC 6 3/4’ bed FX4 6.2 and the ride is much rougher than I expected. I have aired down the tires to 50 PSI which helps but it’s still pretty rough of the back roads. I upgraded bc I pull a 29’ travel trailer quite a bit in the summer, more than 3k miles so far this summer, and it was just too much for the 150. I would love a slightly better ride when not towing and found this thread. Any help would greatly appreciated.

FYI Most helpful thing I did to my 17 F250 for ride , was reverse level (PMF blocks)—basically what Ford did with the 2020 factory height by lowering *** end- Fox shocks helped some .

which shocks did you use for the rear since you lowered it to essentially 2016 height or I guess maybe now 2020 height?

I ordered BDS Foxes for my 2018 F250. Due to Covid, the fronts were on indefinite backorder. I received the rears. So Stage3 swapped my order to regular 2.0's for the front. Truck has a leveling kit with shock extensions and I'm running 325 60's.
Received them and installed. Fronts don't use the extensions.
What I experienced was weird. The rear firmed up and are perfect. The front feels really softer than I expected with the regular valving. It seems to rebound better than the factory shocks but the initial hit on an expansion joint for example is pretty soft. But I will say it's an improvement over stock.

I replaced the Ranchos with the 2.5 Fox's a few weeks ago and the ride improvement was substantial. I've never had the Fox 2.0's but highly recommend the 2.5's.

I can't recommend Fox shocks. Not for work trucks anyway...

Was it a lack of shockboots and debris?

How do Bilstein 5160's compare to Fox 2.5's? They are a lot less expensive so Im leaning that way unless they are just junk.
