2001 F150 Supercrew w/ 4.6L. Transmission shifts are strong and pronounced into all gears except Drive. From Neutral to Drive it feels like the edge is rounded off and I really have to push on the shifter to engage Drive. Doing some digging, I think it is an issue with the linkage, has anyone ran into this happening? Don't want to just throw parts at it errantly.
Video is where I think the problem lies on my pickup.
I did in fact crawl under the truck, but thought I'd also use the forum for it's intended purpose: to see if the problem had been had by any other owners of similar vehicles and have that information shared.
The bracket where the cable connects was loose, so it got loctite & tightened. This helped the slop dramatically, but I think I will still need to replace the bushings on the column.
Check the two torx bolts at the bottom end of the shift tube. They are notorious for loosening up and backing themselves out. You can just tighten them up or take them out one at a time and apply loctite to keep them from doing it again.
Nevermind. I think that is what you mean by the "bracket where the cable connects"

To SPECS,
The shift tube is mounted on top of the steering column. It connects the shift lever to the bracket that shift cable connects to. The torx screws referred to hold the bracket to the shift tube.
