Any ideas on where to go to get a key copied? I want to make a copy of my ignition key, but nobody seems to be able to do it. I took it to Lowe’s, home depot, tractor supply... they all said it’s not in their system, whatever that means. I even called a Ford dealership and told them it was for a 1966 and the kid literally asked if the key had a chip in it 😑
I’d call a locksmith but there doesn’t seem to be locksmith shops anymore, just vans that do house calls, and I don’t want to spend $85 for a guy to come to my house.
Key blanks and ignition/door cylinder kits with pre cut keys are available from several vendors. I went with new cylinders from LMC just because they are 100 miles away and shipping time is minimal. The set came with 4 precut keys. It's a shame but this newest generation doesn't seem to think anything is worth doing unless it involves tapping on a computer.
If I understand correctly, you have a key and want to have it duplicated; if the case and unable to locate a locksmith may consider purchasing a new key cylinder, which comes with 2 keys; however, if purchased thru online vendors; DC, Carolina, Mac's, LMC, etc., can run as low as $10 but most likely outsources from who know where? If decide to replace I would start off by contacting the vendors who list as NOS items and get a price. Anyhow food for thought?
