Is there a way to disable the programmable feature for the ignitioin key? I bought a 1999 F150 with a chip in the key and only got one key. The ford dealership wants $100 for a duplicate!! Help!!
I always assumed they installed a corresponding chip (based on info you'd provide) to do it. As long as you could get the PN for the specific key blank from Ford, they should be able to dupe it.
Has anyone ever investigated uninstalling the PATS so a normal key would work?
The PATS can be disabled. The only way is to have the EEC reprogrammed (reflashed) This is not something the dealer will be able to do. You would have to contact someone such as motorhaven.autoanything.com to do this.
As for the remote starter bypass modules....
Crimestopper sells a module that you don't have to leave your key in for it to work. I believe you use the key to program it once and it works from then out. The only problem is you would have to wire it up a bit different. The module is designed to only "activate" when a remote start is requested. I guess you could hook it up so it's on all the time.
