Approx 2 weeks ago, was in a rush and connected my battery in reverse. As soon as I made contact with the negative, the start selanoid started smoking. quickly Fixed the mistake. I started the truck and headed to work, 1/4 mile down, I basically stal. The truck is low miles and well maintained. The truck just turns but won’t kick over and run. The only thing in the cab I noticed not working is the radio.Dont know what else to attack. Please help!
So far I replaced the battery.
checked the fuses in the box
checked fuses in cab
replaced alternator
did a tune up as well, wires, plugs, rotor, cap
new filter
I'll join the chorus saying check your fuel pressure. The electrical transient could have fried your fuel pump (which is an electric motor) or a fuse or relay in the fuel pump circuit. Crank without start is a textbook symptom of a dead fuel pump. Granted, it could be lack of spark also, but id start with fuel. To check the pump, simply determine whether there's pressure in the fuel rail via the schrader valve (looks like a tire valve). An even easier test is listen for the pump to whine when you turn the key to the run (not crank) position. No whine means the pump is either dead or not getting power.
A fuel pump being bad is unlikely. Why?
1. The circuit to the fuel pump motor was open while the battery was reversed.
The coils of the PCM and Fuel pump relays could not have gotten any power to pull in.
2. He said he was driving when the engine quit running.
I have not heard of a fuel pump quitting after it has started running.
They just do not do that unless he changed tanks while driving.
More than likely an Ignition problem as the Ignition system is not protected for reverse polarity like the EEC-IV system is.
I would look for spark and if there is none check the ICM and the PIP sensor.
