That makes complete sense. I'll so some scrubbing, and then look around at what I find. I get the feeling I may need to wait until I get the body off the frame to look around effectively.
1948/62's do not have the first two digits of the DSO code listed. 1963 thru today: These codes refer to the specific FoMoCo district sales office where the dealer ordered the truck.
I have a number of 1962 trucks with a 6 digit DSO. Here's one example that you decoded of a 1962 with a 6 digit DSO.
When Ford installed the overload springs and brackets they typically rivetted the brackets to the frame. There are two things about these overloads that strike be as not being factory installed. The lack of rivets on those brackets - seemingly bolted to the under edge of the frame - and the leaves seem to be very squared off on the ends of each one on just the overloads. The original Ford leaves seem to have slightly rounded tips and tapered some, too. So, it might have been sent out to have those installed under a DSO, but no way to really know one way or the other most likely.
Hi TA,
You have a great point. I'll use Number Dummy's thoughts on trying to find part numbers, and your thoughts on the assembly and see if I can't come up with some idea on the springs.
Also, the examples you sent of the 6 digit DSO codes are interesting. With all of them being either 250's or 4X4s, I wonder if those specific types of trucks had that type of coding when compared to the F100.
Hi TA,
You were right on the money with your analysis of the second set of springs. They do not appear to be factory installed. They actually have GM stamped on the edges of many of the springs.
I appreciate your insight.
