Yes. Manufacturers seem to want them generally in the same spot. And somewhere north of horizontal, to prevent condensation from pooling on the sensor. The unit has to be energized whenever the engine is running, or it will be trashed in short order.

The top gauge works with standard narrow band O2 sensors and just indicates when the mixture is rich or lean from 14.7:1. Notice it has no graduations, in use it will just peg one way or the other because that is all it is capable of doing so you won't know how far off the mixture is from your target. The gauge in the second picture is used with a wideband sensor, this one will actually tell what the air/fuel ratio is in real time. This second option is more expensive but it's what you need for tuning because optimal power and fuel milage aren't obtained at 14.7:1, you want 12-13.5:1 for power and 15:1 for cruising fuel economy.
