OK, so bought a 2012 F250 with 138,000 KMs on it for cheap cause of bad engine noise...like really clacky sounding from the valve covers.
Had misfire codes and P0017 AND 19 codes. Tested compression and did leak down tests. Seemed OK, so I think the valves/springs are OK.
Noticed a ton of sludge in the passengers side. Cleaned up what I could. Flushed with Varsol etc.
Replaced both phasers, chains, guides etc, even the oil pump to be sure.
Got it all back together and when I started it, it sounded a bit better, but still the clacking on what seems like the drivers side. Not a clicking, but a clacking....sounds bad.
I am thinking there is no oil getting to the cam/phaser, so the 'fingers' inside the phaser are just clacking around without oil inside there. Next option?
I might take the valve cover off and start r up so see if there is any oil in there.
Next step would be to remove the rocker rails and check for damage.
I have a wedge on order so I can remove the camshaft as well.
I am already considering just replacing the whole engine. If it is a sludge issue I am assuming just replace?
No sure how I would clean up the oil galleries without total disassembly, not what I care to do.
I'm guessing something is slugged up and not getting oil up but with the left side clean and the right looking like that my first guess would by the motor has a serious blow by problem and its being drawn out through the pcv system on the right side causing the slug.
