Thought I would mention this as a reminder how important safety is working on our trucks. Yesterday a friend of mine was working on a car at the shop and right after he got out from under it one of the two jack stands broke at the lock and then the other stand immediately broke and the front end totally collapsed to the ground. A minute longer under the car and he would have been crushed. He also wasn't using a back up jack . Today I ordered four steel double locking 6 ton BIG RED jacks made by Torin. to replace what I have. Sandy
I read this post shortly before leaving work today. Get home with new shoes for Blue, whose front end has been on jack stands for two days. As I slide the first wheel over the hub, Blue's front end slowly heads south and down. I'm not sure if the stand collapsed or just fell over and was crushed by the knuckle, but it`s flat now. Took a good hour to get her back in the air and get the tires on. I'll be buying real stands tomorrow.
Thanks. I try to stay out from under anyway when they're on stands. Could have been far worse than a coupla bent backing plates. Dry flat solid ground Cheap stand + wood blocks= bad news All's well that ends well
I got a followup email from HF shortly after the first recall, saying some of the stands they replaced the bad ones with were also defective. Full list of the crap ones here.
