Keyless entry

This is probably a long shot but anybody ever install keyless entry in one of these vans that didn't originally have it?

I just picked up a 2011 E250 to replace my '06 which is quickly dissolving back to it's natural form(dirt) and the only thing it doesn't have that I have really come to like is keyless entry. The '06 has this and I'm contemplating ripping apart the dash to see if pulling the system out of that truck is feasible, but I suspect there is a complicated wiring harness involved that interfaces with all the door locks. Anybody every try this or have another solution?

Do this 2011 already have PDL's & PW's?

I can't speak specifically to the 2011's but beginning in 2005 Ford moved to the CAN-BUS network system which moved a lot of functions like RKE to modules rather than physical devices as in 2004's and earlier. It might be possible to have a dealer or someone familiar with FORScan to activate that if its available without installing a device, You could check with a trusted independent shop or the dealer to see what is possible. You will need to buy Ford key fobs, that much I'm fairly certain.

You could also DIY a basic car alarm that has keyless entry as a feature. This would be a good example of such a system: Code Alarm Basic System Its from Crutchfield but might be available cheaper elsewhere on the internet.

Yes the new truck has powered windows and locks. My online searching has already revealed that there is a wireless control module for this, my '06 has it but the 11 doesn't. I'm going to take another looks at it today as I'm curious as to whether it uses a separate wiring harness or if it just inserts into the main PDL harness. The module is located on the passenger side kick panel up above the plastic trim forward of the fuel cutoff switch, and I already have a pair of key fobs for it.

I want to update and close this thread with some additional info I have learned. The bottom line is that it is not possible to retrofit keyless entry from an earlier model to the 09+ Superduty styled van and the reason is that the electrical system is totally different. With the upgrade to the superduty dash came the smart module based electrical system now found on all modern Ford trucks, and with this system most body functions are enabled and modified via canbus tools like Forscan. But it appears there are still different trim levels and corresponding GEM/SJB modules which are the hub of the system, so it's not like all trucks carry the potential for all options. On my truck for example I could do some interesting things like enable/disable DRL, auto locking or unlocking, and change the dash cluster display between imperial and metric, but there was no option to enable/disable RKE as that system is completely missing and adding it would require changing the complete GEM/SJB module to one that includes it, and I'm not sure that is even possible for various reasons.

Success.
With a little web searching I found the Forscan spreadsheet for the 2008-2010 Superduty trucks and found the as-built codes for RKE and it's options. I have and OBDLink EX interface and Forscan with the extended license and looking at the as-built data for the GEM/SJB on my truck it looked like RKE was there and already enabled. Cool beans!! I had kept the key fobs from my old truck so I tried the initialization sequence with the ignition key that puts RKE into programming mode(8 cycles) but nothing happened, so I kept trying and somehow got it to initialize(locks cycle) but ended up with the key in the off position. So a bunch more tries and I got it to work but I'm pretty sure it took 9 cycles, will have to try again with both key fobs. In any event it appears Ford hadn't changed the key fobs up to this point so probably safe to say they will work on any cargo van up to the end of production.

This is great information Conanski----even if only for you!

Fact is there are probably a few others with the E-Series built with the GEM/SJB features who might be interested in adding the factory fobs--whether they'd be willing to dig into the PCM as deeply as you did would be the question.

IF you're enthusiastic enough maybe post something on YouTube showing your process from using FORScan to enable the feature and how you programmed the fobs to the chassis.

Thanks for sharing your finding!
