Yesterday morning(Sunday) me and my girlfriend were watching a show about lizards. We became interested and spent the rest of the day searching pet shops to see what they were about. Well we found what we wanted. We are now both infatuated with Bearded Dragons.
We learned quite a bit about them. They are all pretty much docile, easy to take care of, friendly, get to be a decent size, they have beautiful coloring....etc. Well I've seen everything mentioned on this site, so I figured why not this, someone on here knows about them, so lets hear it!
From what I know they eat crickets, mealworms, lettuce type veggies......So I guess that means omnivore??? Are crickets and mealworms considered meat???
A friend of mine had a Bearded Dragon, I say had because it recently died. They do eat crickets and lettuce, that's all she fed him. They can get a very hard to treat skin fungus around the tails...in fact, the fungus can be deadly, as was the case of my friend's lizard. The fungus is transmitted by the surroundings...so buy from a good shop, one that'll stand behind the lizard and has a good reputation. They live for 10+ years...and they are very docile, good pets.
Yeah...we saw those too....didn't like the look of the thicker tail. We were told that the Bearded Dragons aren't too bad in the smell department. Who knows???!@#?#$
my future sister in law and live-in boyfriend has a bearded dragon. It's really funny watching this thing interact with their two cats. It'll beat the snot out of both of them.
For food, pretty much what has already been mentioned, plus baby mice, grasshoppers, and crunchy cat food. Probably more, but I'm not over at their house all the time.
I like animals but I mostly like them outside and I only like the ones that will come when you call and are mentally capable of being taught. I don't mind house critters if they don't stink or hide in remote places and only come out at will. I also don't like caged critters of any kind. I have had a "pet " zipper spider this fall. Every night he built a big web all the way across the end of the porch and takes it down in the morning, well at least until a couple days ago when one of my aracnaphobic teenagers smashed him.
Fish is as far as I'd go for having a pet that does nothing for you. I do like tanks but anyother caged animal is kind of useless. I like dogs. I can teach it things. And cats are almost as useless as a caged animal, unless you have mice.
My buddy had lizards. The end came when they escaped and his mom found them in a not so good place.
