Call me an idiot, but I've recently discovered that apples are possibly the tastiest snack ever!
After 2 decades of eating processed garbage food, I've found that packing my face full of apples is way more fun than triscuits/crackers/chips.
I'm a pretty big guy, but I can't eat all that much at one time, so I end up being hungry all the time. Instead of idly snacking on some junk food, I've been chowing down on apples.
Is there anything bad about eating too many apples? Or is there no such thing?
Apples in excess can remove the enamel from your teeth, causing any amount of problems. If you do eat apples, always drink water to wash the sugar from your teeth afterwards. The seeds in apples contain a toxin, which if ingested in large quantities, can give you tummy ache in a bad way.
Torque1st beat me to the punch. I was going to say sugar also. I was just out at the grocery store trying to find something to snack on that wouldn't have too much sugar. An average apple has 22 carbohydrates. That's more than a day's supply if you follow Theos' low carb diet.
By the way Theo, I am diabetic and suceeded in almost going into a comma trying to eat 20 carbs a day. I know you said it wasn't for diabetics, but that couldn't mean me, right? Noticed the numb feeling in mouth and lips and felt dizzy so checked my sugar and it was 51. A bowl of cereal got me to feeling better but my darned sugar was 166 this morning. Actually that's still down from the 184 the last two mornings I checked my sugar. I'm on pills, not insulin.
Apples are low on the glycemic index, which means the sugar they contain is converted to glucose at a slower rate than some other foods like an orange or potato.
Bubba, as a diabetic, you are not supposed to diet unless guided by a nutritional expert.. I am not one of those, so pay no attention to my diet tips what so ever. You could maybe find a holistic inclined doctor, who would work with you to loose your problem with diet.
Theo, at one time I was able to loose 42 pounds by cutting down on carbs, but the doctor has increased my meds since then and I will have to increase the carbs a little less I get too dizzy and fall on my head. I pretty much ate like I did before when I lost weight and I'm sure not inferring that you are responsible in any way for my health problems. I do appreciate your concern for my well being.
I certainly hope those are NEW YORK STATE apples you're eating, my friend. Tastiest in the world. The area I live in is surrounded by huge fruit orchards; Wayne County, to the east, produces more fruit than any other county in North America. Far superior to those Washington state apples- YUK!!!

I'm gonna take issue with the crack about Washington State Apples.
As you probably know there are more varieties of apples now than in the past 10 years. The Red Delicious is just about a has been up here. We have replaced it with Criterions, Galas, Fujis, Pink Ladies, JohnnaGolds, and assorted others.
Some are great in Controlled Atmosphere storage, and some are not. I dont buy apples too far out of season because they will no doubt be "freezer" apples. You will know when you get a freezer apple when you bite into it, or look at the calander and know that the harvest was 8 months ago.
To fully appreciate a Washington State Apple you have to get it as early as possible to August or September for a fresh one. Give us another chance to win you back and you won't be disappointed. And be sure to look for the sticker on the apple.
Thank you for your support...
