Trying to replace the steering wheel on my '05 Excursion V10 XLT. Anyone know which other Ford model Wheels will swap out with the OEM? Its just the black with cruise no stereo. thanks
There are two options for Lincoln steering wheels in the tech folder and I’d imagine any of the 99-05 super duty ones would likely work. You could also send yours out for a recover or do the recover yourself. There a couple of folks here that have done that.
I've seen lots photos of the recovers and none were good as factory. Thry never get the stitching right around the "spokes". It's best if can redye your original or search for a better one.
I have a similar dilemma with my Crown Vic except the wheel has this rubberized foam. It's starting to crumble a bit at the top. My options are even more limited since on top of everything, the wheel is blue. I've all but given up on finding one.
I know some people may go nuts here, but if the leather isn't too bad, as in deep wear or abrasions, the SEM Color Coat will work wonders. They have another product that sounds more applicable, that I have not tried, but the Color Coat worked so well, I don't think I would try it. I am amazed at how well it has held up. Plus, a monkey can spray it with flawless results. Wipe down thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol. Just smooth out the laws with fine sandpaper, finishing up with 600 grit. Then spray a bunch of light coats, hitting the wear areas more and stay lighter around the threads. The wheel is easy to take off. I probably used 2/3 of a can. You will be surprised how permanent this is and how good it looks.
