This may be partially/wholey my fault due to the way that I drive but is anyone's steering wheel peeling. I have an 05 F150 FX4 w/ 60,000 on the clock. Typically, and I am trying to not to this anymore, when I steer I use the palm of my hand to spin the wheel. A couple weeks ago I noticed that right where my palm sits there is a pencil eraser sized piece of the steering wheel coating that is peeling off. I trimmed the loose edges off w/ a knife to hopefully prevent it from spreading. I also noticed it in a few other places so maybe my theory of the palm rubbing and accelerating the wear is un-justified.
Anyone else? Please no drivers ed teachers need reply. 10 and 2
The leather steering wheels on Fords all wear like this. If you're still under 3 yrs/36K miles, take it in and have it replaced under warranty. If not, you can buy a leather cover to go over it, try and find a new steering wheel for sale on eBay, or live with it.
My last truck peeled. That is why I specifically did not want the leather wrapped steering wheel when I bought my 04 and I am glad I did not get one that had it.
That dosent suprise me. My Taurus's wheel is starting to get a little thin with 130,000 on the clock, dosen't have a hole in it yet but im sure its getting to that point. My sisters '02 explorer still looks good even with 100k on it.
