Interior cleaning question

Application: 2016 f-150 xlt V8

Hope I'm on the right forum here....I'm a little new to this particular forum.

So rule #1 for any one of my vehicles is NO FOOD OR DRINK! Ok, except a commuter mug which has been successful.

Well, I had my commuter mug and it must have sweated between my legs and now there is a stain on my F150 seats. There was no leak, it is clearly the shape of the commuter mug.

I'm not too familiar with this material. It's kind of a synthetic woven material.

I try degroits (sp?) interior cleaner without any success...

Can you folks tell me what is a good cleaner for this type of interior?

Thanks.

Short of replacing the cover there is little to do. The grey cloth is the most terrible fabric Ford could have used. Any moisture leaves a stain, more moisture leaves more stains. The fabric is not color safe as others have discovered so cleaning has some unwanted effects.

Try simple green 1st...then go to KR2 or Goddards Dry clean...... that's some of the best out there

Take damp microfiber cloth to it. Not too wet, not too dry. Scrub the ring, then the entire area. Try it with no chemicals first. If that doesn’t
do the trick try some Tuff Stuff.

The cloth interior is the worst to keep clean. I solved mine with Rough Country seat covers and a center console cover:

Hey all,

Wanted to get some pictures before I responded. Robbgt, my interior looks a little different. ITs not so much a cloth, but as I said, it's more of a woven synthetic material.

You can see the ring towards the bottom of the picture and, if you look close, you can see a slightly enlarged ring towards the upper part of the photograph as a result of trying to clean it. To the best of my knowledge, its pretty much a water stain.

I checked the owner's manual and tried calling Ford to get the recommended cleaner; they were not very helpful and just directed me to buy something in the automotive store (they didn't want to be bothered).

I'll try some of the suggestions here and I thank all of you.

I had good luck on my '04 F150's seat using carpet cleaner detergent on a spot where someone sat on a piece of chocolate. I used the hand held attachment on a carpet shampoo machine, rinsed it thoroughly and vacuumed it as dry as I could. You have to do the entire panel and not just the spot.

jr105,

Yes, that would work great and I did similar on my 2000 F150's (purchased new) cloth seats. Got rid of the truck last year mainly due to rust issues and was getting tired of the nickel and dime stuff every time I turned around. Crazy enough the rear window started to leak the week I was getting ready to sell it.

Found my 2016 in Nov. 2018 with only 3,400 miles for 30K...and it was what I was looking for so I pulled the trigger. Weird story with this truck. Sat on dealer lot for almost a year, someone bought it, drove it for 1,000 miles then it went to the dealer for a month, then another month, then another month (3 total), truck got driven for like 1,500 more miles and the person sold it. Came out of Canada. Has a 7 year warranty and I've had no problems with it now for almost 2 years. Got my info from the car fax. To bad it didn't tell me why it was at the dealer. Wonder if my Ford mechanic friend could look up why?

Thanks for all the great advice. I wondering if its just, as stated above, a color safe issue that ford390gashog pointed out and there is not a heck of a lot you can do. Crazy that just moisture from the outside of a commuter mug could do that.

I'm going to try that Goddard's dry clean mentioned above. It's just water! Grrr! LOL.

I doubt that it's related but when I bought my 2004 F150 it rained in on my driver side seat within a few days after I bought it new and it lived the rest of its 200,000+ miles that I had it with those rainwater stained seats. I think it was a known problem but there was never a recall or TSB on it and I quickly got used to it.
