Intermittent AC issues!!!!

Howdy everyone! This has been going on for quite some time and im finally sick of it. With no know cause or pattern, my AC will shut off all together by itself. When it decides to come back on it works fine but i get afraid to change any settings. Cold air and heater work fine, but the fan will just shut down. Has anyone had a similar problem in the past? Looking for someones wise words of wisdom here.

Thanks for those diagrams Sean. I will get good use out of them in the near future. A Lot of good info. Any on-site on where to get a good shop manual, digital or hard copy. Again thanks.

Well I am not sure about the paper one. But I have picked up some on Ebay.
The digital is easy to find. Look for the Ford Workshop Manual. They are date
sensitive and you can make it work by resetting you computer date or better
yet use "Run As Date"
I found these on Ebay for you.

I'm starting to have intermittent cut-outs myself, and it's the hottest it's been in years here so it's quite the thing to have the vents start to blow warm on a record setting day.

I think my problem is I have an overcharge in the AC, or perhaps some other issue that a recapture, vacuum, and refill with 12a will fix.

Running on a cooler night, I'm able to keep the AC on longer. On the hotter days, it "runs out" faster. I have a gauge on the AC clutch, and it's on.. just not creating any cool.

Local Princess Auto (Canadian Harbor Freight) has a sale on recharge kits, so Ii'm just going to do it and see what the world is like after. I already have an HVAC vac from when I installed my heat pumps, so I should be able to do a good job.

See if you can get it to turn on again if you've got the AC off for a while.. preferably at highway speed so there's lots of air cooling of the rad.

Probable overcharge (but could be plenty of other things on the low side or high side like condenser, engine overheat, etc) and the high pressure switch is cycling, saying ENUF -- can't tell you how many of these exact overcharge DIY problems I've seen with people using those single gauge "chargers" from AutoMoan, O O what a Joke, Hazard Fraught, etc

I'd instrument with gauges right away and monitor clutch cycle time (and electrical generally)-- if the high pressure switch decides it's had enough / goes south (they do) you can't imagine when happens inside your A/C System when pressures go off the charts.....you can even get shrapnel in the engine compartment.........
