7.3 Head Prep
I have an 01 Excursion 7.3 and I am in the process of working on the heads to get thrown back on and into the truck.
How do I clean the injector cup seating area. Below is a picture of what it looks like but the tools that came with my new cups wont seem to clean them and always leave some crap left over.
In addition, does anyone have any tips for thew new head gaskets? Do I need to use a copper spray? Are there any pitfalls to be aware of?
Thanks!
Tugly: I used a Dremmel tool with the flexible extender and a 3/4" wire brush attachment, then dabbed a little brake cleaner on the bristles.

Clean rigorously and spend a can or 2 of brake kleen to get all the dirt out.
No experience on the head gasket question, but a nice levelling zots of spray copper sounds like a good idea to me.
Leave the VCs off after install (or laid on but not bolted) and start it up. Re-torque the injectors when warmed up.
