Sounds like we could all stand to take a chill pill. I know there is a lot of stuff floating around that doesn't necessarily have factory records. It is possible that the Ford factory didn't keep perfect records or what is more likely is what I, personally, believe. That is, that the origin on most of this rare "factory" stuff is from dealers. Back in the day, dealers were a lot more into modification of cars for their customers. It would not be out of the realm of reason for a performance oriented dealer to take a new car and install or modify the engine before selling it to an individual. So these examples do exist. We also have to remeber that all these cars are now going on 40 years old. A lot can happen to a car since it was built. Much of it can be professionally done and can be just as if it came from the factory (or better).

Thanks for the suport Mach1sc,
I don't think it was me at the swapmeet but it is my understsnding that there may have been more than one of these Torino Cobra's as well as several Ford Tallidagas and at least two '71 Boss429 Mustangs. Did you sell your Stang?
As for the "Chill Pill" ...I appologise if my reply upset the thread but I don't care for being called a "lier" or being Condescended to by someone who happens to be missinformed. no disrespect was intended. I was just looking for some shotgun heads. and trying to have a polite exchange of experiences when I was hammered, quite sarcasticly, by a fellow inthusiast. I suppose these things happen and should be expected on a public board.
Cheers, Boss429

OK Boss,
I am sorry you took my statement wrong... What I meant is, FORD may not have built it, maybe as we all know some Dealership or private contractor built it...

I've read just about every book or document there is about the Boss 429 engines, and have never seen a Boss Torino.

Again, my apologies.

Um, can i ask...? (cautiously)... Do ya have any pictures of it..?

Blue_Mule,
I do have a single picture of the car(not big on pictures back then) but unfortunatly it does not show the engine. I'll find it and post it if you tell me how.
Cheers, Boss429

OK, so am I reading this wrong, or can you put the hemi heads on any 429 block? If so, are there any other major modifications/parts that this would require?

Ford came out with a 429 Semi Hemi engine to compete with Chryslers Hemi, there was not many made as it was more for Nascar Racing.

852 were built in 69, and 505 in 70, the engines had to be specially put in in a seperate factory as it was too tight of a fit

ford had their power output down as 375 horses,

I'm taking all this out of my mustang Bible, so for those nonsayers, yes there is one

Yes they can be bolted onto any 429 or 460 block. You would need an intake and special valve covers. I don't think much else is different.

As I remember Pistons and Rods were different also... the piston dome fits the shape of the hemi combustion chamber and the rods were "S" and "T" series.
Also, since the Boss heads were designed for the 429 engine you would have to buy custom rods/pistons to build a 460 or larger.

Yeah, you're right the pistons were different. I think the rods were standard length so any 429/460 rods would work, although they wouldn't be "correct".

well, if i did this, I already have a blower for my 429tj so could I leave the existing forged pistons for a lower compression ratio? And are the BOSS pushrods any different form a normal 429? I will also need to get a blower intake for a BOSS, anyone know a good place?

I don't know for sure, but the pushrods have to be different. You do realize that the rockers are different and are very expensive, right? As for blower intakes, I'm sure there are some out there, but your best bet is probably to go with a custom sheetmetal intake.

The boss 429 used three differant sized Rods with corisponding pistons. The street boss "S" engine at 6.549", The "T" engine (same as the 429 wedge)at 6.605" and the nascar boss at 6.785". They also made a version called the "can-am" Boss. The stroke on it was supposedly the same as the 460 at 3.850" so possably the rods were the same, Just meatier. it had a much larger bore though at 4.52"instead of 4.36. this all comes out of a book called"Ford Performance" by Pat Ganahl

Boss 9's Had about 3 different rod and piston combinations. The oil drain back holes don't line up on the original Boss heads and a standard block. You can run external lines to solve the problem. The aftermarket heads probably work. The Nascar race heads have true hemispherical combustion chambers.
