Just got off phone with Auto shack and they did the same thing Fuzzpuss mentioned. They told me to keep it and are returning my money
on the Rockauto radiator, they have some for 5.4 gassers not 6.0's. Looking at Napa, I guess.
And Jack I think you might be on to something.
I think weight also has to do with it. Is it throwable or not to get off the conveyor into the truck. I've got Parasound amps, one that has made it through 5 trips across the country @ 65lbs. Double boxed. In the audio enthusiast market, any scratches or dings deducts from it's prized condition.
And dealers have become crazed with the price. It's not just dealers. I know for a fact from the brake parts that when inventory at the mother ship starts to become scarce because the supplier contract has ended, part pricing gets jacked up. There's a number of 6.0L era parts being discontinued due to age.
Has anyone seen images of how backlogged UPS was weeks back? I couldn't get delivery on an item Les needed to open her shop. I went to the distribution center 5 min away after two days of it sitting at the facility based on UPS software. The guy was saying he's never seen anything like this, drivers were coming back at midnight when they typically came back at 7 pm. He looked, couldn't find it, they looked the next day, still couldn't in the pile of backlogged packages. I finally got it delivered 5 days after it was supposed to be.
I know our delivery driver well and she said it was unbelievable. She showed me an image she had on her phone and I realized why they could not find something. It was 20x worse than this on-line image. She said if it was a large package, it was less likely to get on the truck because they were prioritizing by size, to get more into the limited truck space. Then the overwhelming pileup meant they could not prioritize by date, so it became last in first out.
I got a Mishimoto from XDP. Decent price, good packaging. It’s been in there a couple years with no issues. The Quick connect fittings and the very special tool were a PITA and the was some discussion about the orifice size in the trans cooler. I never pulled mine apart again to inspect the size but I’ve not had any trans temp problems. For me it was about the all metal construction. If I can replace a plastic thing with a metal thing I do that every time.
Interesting Rock Auto no longer offers the motorcraft radiator on their website.
White Bear Lake lists the stock one $350 but will not ship.
Tasca is the same price and only wants $113 for shipping!
Has anyone found an aftermarket with the same fin count as the stocker? I know the consensus a few years back was the stocker was the highest performer as the aftermarkets ones use less fins/inch. On my previous truck I purchased a Napa radiator and the fin count was quite a bit less than the stocker. Ended up getting the stock one from a dealer.
I looked at xdp, I bought my hpop through them and I am happy with product so far.
Right now I have serious issues with shipping.
(Ya think?)
On another note, I have a 2004.5 with the line nuts. No quick release. Me myself I prefer the line nuts. A little extra work, but I think more dependable.
I'm still looking around. If I can find something local, maybe with a rebate, I'll do that. Just really turned off on shipping a radiator. I'll let y'all know.
Chez on Bread Mon. I be run dat **** 2 tree year Mon an me still save change in dat price.
Sorry went island on ya. But really 750 to 1000. I can run 3 radiators in 10 years, keep system clean and still be ahead.
The Ford dealerships here wants $550 to $700.
Really don't want to drop that much change right now.
I'm looking at about $300.
Just to add to the shipping stories, my radiator from BulletProofDiesel came poorly packaged and slightly damaged by UPS (I am pretty sure it was UPS and not FedEx). I was disappointed in BPD for that.
We I got my radiator, it was a motorcraft from rock auto. The box had a small hole in the middle but there was no damage to the radiator. Also, both end tanks were protected with a spray foam packing material. Not sure if this helps, but if you search rock auto for and motorcraft RAD16 it says they have them. That happens to be the motorcraft part number for the 05-07 6.0 radiator.

$301 at Autozone with lifetime warranty. And 15% off if you want to risk shipping to home next day. At least if it's damaged upon delivery you can get it exchanged at the store same day and still get the discount.

Interesting. The website says that doesn't fit anything...LOL. They are showing in stock, I might just pick one up since mine isn't long for this world.
Side note: Has anyone had luck with a local shop rebuilding the stock radiator? Rod it out, new end caps, etc?
Hey Gentleman.
Jack on the 2006 Radiator, it has quick release lines. Mine is line nuts. I have taken advice and ordered the AutoZone Radiator with life time warranty. Good news is they gave me 10% off for being a member.
The whole deal is right around $280. It will be there in the morning.
Again as always thanks for y'alls advice and knowledge.
Actually I was just trying to point that out along with the price since Dave brought it up. I realized you would not use it, but I should have been more clear about that.
