I have a 2007 f150 lariat 5.4l triton. Eventually I want to change the stock trans with a manual and was wondering how you would go about it, if even possible

Reason: Forgot something
Anything is possible if you want to spend enough time and money. This will take a considerable amount of both since you would be trying to turn your truck into something it wasn't designed to be.
I swapped in a manual on my 79 F250 and even on that dinosaur (comparatively speaking) it was expensive, complicated, and probably not worth it. What you want to do can be done but I would budget at least $5k and maybe up to $10k. You will have to source the correct manual. Either an M5OD from a 98-2003 with the modular bell housing or a ZF-5 from a Superduty 5.4L/6.8L from 98-2010. The ZF is huge. You probably won’t get it to fit. The Mazda trans is not a great idea behind the 5.4L but you can make it work if you baby it. You will have to source the cover/console from an 04-08 V6 manual truck plus the pedal/master cylinder assembly from the donor truck also. 4wd if present will make it more complicated with transfer case bolt pattern. Then once assembled, you will probably have to get some custom shop tuning done on the PCM since there won’t be a transmission to talk to and you’ll be missing some sensors. Not telling you not to do it, but on 98 and newer, the technology makes it extremely difficult for home mechanic. You should think about whether you’re willing to make a $5k gamble because the truck may not run right after either. As someone who did it, I would probably never do it again and that was where I only had to figure out 2 wires.
I'm sure exactly how you could spend $5-10,000 doing that?? A new tranny, couple thousand?? Used $200-750?? New flywheel and clutch another $300-350. Driveshaft work. $200 tops. Hole in floor, free. If trans is too big to fit trans tunnel it gets more complicated but still not very expensive if you can cut and weld yourself.
should be able to junkyard a pedal setup that will work. Or buy a universal hydraulic clutch pedal system like they use on hot rods. Summit racing has them. Then you don't even have to mess with stock pedals. Should be able to reuse your trans cross member, although you will likely have to relocate it. If you can reuse it, there are enough universal trans cross members online for hot rods that im sure you could find one to work well.
Wiring will be a little challenging. You need to wire it for reverse lights and neutral safety switch should be wired to the clutch pedal safety switch. Don't skip the clutch switch! My kid ran an old truck of mine into a well pump house when he was 3, that safety switch is worth the trouble!! Mine was just old enough not to have it. I left him and keys in it for 20 seconds. Lesson learned!!
I think SCT can build you a program to run right without the slop-o-matic.
its not for the faint of heart, but it's not that bad either. Just start rounding up the stuff you need. You might find a driveshaft that will work but chances are you will need a driveshaft shop to make one, or cut your down, extend it, etc.
I have an 07 supercrew 4.6. if I wasn't about to upgrade to an F-250 I'd be putting a manual in this. Just takes preparation and knowledge.
i have a 65 F100 with a fuel injected 5.0 and a 5 speed manual. With a crown Victoria front end. Nothing is impossible. And it's not always that expensive if you plan carefully.
Well, that is my concern.. I dont know for a FACT, but the TUNERS normally change the shift points of the transmission, NOT ELIMINATE the wiring / controls.... Im not sure what will happen if the wires are left OFF the transmission.. at least a bunch of CODES show up... You may need a new COMPUTER programmed at a Specific Manufacturer who can ELIMINATE the transmission ?
I think the best answer to that question is to call SCT or another tuner and just ask. I'd be willing to bet the can build a tune that eliminates the auto signals. But, I'm not code writer. Best to talk to them directly if you're worried about it.
