97 powerstroke with 5 speed..has aftermarket injectors though. after you run it hard and get it 1200+ egt's...it's got a 'knock' that you can hear. i know injectors could do this--but this is only after it's run hard. you can hear it different out of the pipe too(exhaust). like a 'puff' of one cylinder 'knocking'. after it cools down and you restart it....sounds normal. also--when your cruising at a steady speed with a small load..(just truck load...no trailer) it knocks from the top of the engine it sounds like. then if you put ur foot in the throttle just a little bit, the knock goes away--im hoping and thinking this is injectors..because a rod knock woul be there all th time...hot..cold....load...no load...constantly if it was a rod knock. but does anybody have any input as to injectors? they are brand new injectors from ford that were modded since new and put in truck. have about 50000 on them.

how many miles are on the tappets in the motor? sounds like as the oil is getting real hot and the oil pressure settles back down after a hard run some of the tappets are bottoming out.
a rod knock can show up at anytime, first time you usually hear it is after hard runs when the oil pressure drops down and the oil is thin .
but i would bet on the tappets.
a broken injector return spring can cause some of this sound but that you most of the time wont hear at idle just hear it under a hard load, open throttle posistions.
did a buzz test and that was all ok---then an imbalance test..(did balance test before) the balance showed cyl. 1 5 and 7 the only good ones...yet i've changed injectors in this engine repetitive times and every time...even wif stock..modded....and brand new injectors...it said some are bad..when you KNOW thier good--just seems that older engine like mine(97) doesnt react real well with the imbalance test..newer engines are fine. but anyways--just thought i'd post this....
