What is the proper way to adjust the parking brake?. I've put new shoes on and have adjusted the turnwheel until the wheels won't turn then backed off 2-3 clicks and the brake won't hold the truck even on a slight slope. The pedal goes all the way to the floor. I don't want to get too tight and burn the rotor. The brake has never worked correctly since I bought the truck 10 years ago and there is no adjustment for the cables. While installing the brakes all of the mechanicals looked good.
I had to order a shortner from Amazon as none of the parts stores around here have them anymore. I briefly thought about cutting the cable, overlapping the ends and securing them with bulldog clamps but there wouldn't be and adjustments so I'm going with the adjuster. Thanks for the answer to my question.
I recieved the shortener from Amazon and it's a cheap POS from China! A Dorman that collapsed soon after trying to adjust the cable! As there are at least 4 cables in this system and the truck is now 20 years old I'm not going to spend the time and money to "parts hang" until I get the issue resolved. I don't know which cable is stretched. Hell, all of them may be stretched! So I'm going to let Ford figure it out. I'm going to be doing a lot of RV traveling now that both my wife and I are retired and this truck HAS to be safe.
