My park brake no longer works on my 03 F350 dually. The brake pedal engages the same way (the amonut of force to push the pedal) but the brake will not work. I can grab the steering wheel and push it all the down and still no brakes.
Is this a sign that my pads (rear disc) are worn? It is very cold and nasty weather so checking the brake is not possible.
When looking at the brakes last summer I coul dnot see any park brake adjustment but I did not look very close.
Your parking brake is seperate from your regular brakes in the rear. THere is a "drum" that is for parking brake. If the shoes are worn, or if the brake is out of adjustment, they will not work. Best to try and adjust them first before breaking down and getting into the rear brakes to check the shoes.
The parking brake is inside the rear rotor "drum" Adjusting doesn't take much.
Here are the instructions from Ford.....
Parking Brake Shoe and Lining Adjustment
Raise and support the vehicle.
Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
Remove the brake adjusting hole cover from the backing plate.
Turn the brake adjuster screw (2041) to expand the parking brake shoe and linings until they drag against the drum-in-hat rotor.
Back off the brake adjuster screw until no drag is evident.
I did this on my expy as my wife drove several miles with the Parking brake on.... Took me a couple times to get it where i liked it but it was not to hard.
