1997 F 450 7.3 With ZF5
Well so much for swapping rear diff with 2000 + model, way too many parts to change along with front axle assy. so all rims and tires would match .
I found an exact year model donor truck except this one had an automatic tranny in it. My question is- will the diffs interchange? It surely can’t be any lower geared than what I currently have. Existing rear diff has had it. Anyone run into this? Thanks for reading and any intel!
The rear axle will interchange just fine. You shouldn't have any issues finding a rear axle. Remember there was no F450 prior to 1999.
Thanks for the info! “Super Duty “ confused some around here so I refer to my truck as a 450 so potential parts suppliers understand in not looking for parts off a F 250 “Super Duty “
-mention 1997 and most shake their heads and walk away anyhow! Really appreciate the feedback.
4.62 and 5.13 seems to be the two gears available for those models but they used a Dana 80 axle so you should be able to swap in any ratio available for that axle providing you have the correct carrier for that gear.
My 04 F-450 came with 4.88 gears, I like it a lot better with the 3.73's we installed.
