[QUOTE=jowilker;9480259]Bob It was 73 that Ford widened the rear track.
What are you wanting to do?
I want the longer axle so the wheels line up. I figured that would be an easy way to do it. By the way, why did Ford make trucks with the short axle to start with?
Bob, the way it happened is the rear axle through 1972 was the track width to back in the 50s or beyond. It was in 1965 that Ford widened the front track with the I-beams but 73 before the rear was widened to match up.
As to the why, I can't answer that you will have to pose that to Ford.
well if you wanna widen up your rear tires then you can achieve the same effect or just play with the back spacing. then your tires up front will look the same width as your tires out back. since the beds didn't change widths on the outside and it was only the frame that changed and consequently the mounting location for the bed all you need is to fix the back spacing
