Friend has 1937 ford sedan he is working on with a newer chebby
350 engine and automatic tranny. When he putts it in second gear the car goes in reverse. What's up FTE guru's.
Do the other gears work properly ? I would get the tires off the ground , unhook the linkage and shift it by hand to determine if they all work and where park is . Did he make his own linkage or use an existing setup , floor shift or column ? My first guess is that it is shifting the wrong direction ie. where he thinks park is actually 1st then the next notch would be second not reverse . If it's not a linkage problem then it's internal .

Is the trans in park when the shifter is in park? What kind of shifter is in the car? There are shifters for forward and reverse valve bodies. Did somebody install the wrong type of shifter? Is the trans fluid full? Low trans fluid will cause all sorts of strange issues.

Thanks 56, I'll let him know after I get home from work.
