So I bought a 67 F100 a month ago and the PO felt like short cutting all repairs and so now I’m taking the opportunity to learn fabrication for my first truck restoration. The truck had a thick coat of painted in bed liner above epoxy covered rust holes to make the bed look rust free. I stripped the bed liner off and found replacement panels for the badly rusted out sections. Besides sandblasting, what is the best/easiest way to remove the rest of paint and rust before painting?
A heat gun, acute angle pull scraper, carpet hook knife, hack saw blade, and a sonicrafter work ok to remove old seam sealer/prep the bed seams for sandblast. These will work for the bed side seam. You have to be a glutton for punishment!
Are you really going to paint it? I did my 68 in Line X Ultra color matched to the body color. Was the best 800.00 I spent and looked great! Just get everything smooth and seam seal the body lines ( leave the front edge open for draining).
