P0358 Problem
I have a 2006 V10 with a persistent P0358 code. I have changed the plug and the coil pack on #8, monitored the DC supply voltage and grounding pulses at the coil pack. Everything appears fine. I can clear the codes and it will light up within 20 miles on the road. This engine is in a motor home and has 28K on it.
There seems to be no misfire or stalling or any physical anomaly that you can feel while underway. It idles fine and revs fine...
Any ideas? Take it to a Ford dealer?
Thanks!
If it moves, well, change the coil pack.
If it doesn't move, keep looking for a circuit failure. Corroded pins in the main harness connector, etc.

I still have this issue. At idle the engine is flawless, very smooth idle. I have noticed that it does indeed experience an intermittent power loss when driving. I assume that it is related to this code as the engine light is the only indication of something wrong. I have checked the wiring from the COP to the PCM and there is nothing obviously wrong with the wiring. I believe that my only recourse at this time is replacement of the PCM but really would like to confirm failure before just swapping it out.
Does anyone have any other recommendations other than swapping out the PCM?
Thanks,
Dan
As stated earlier I replaced the #8plug, #8 COP with a new one and there was still the constant #8 primary coil open code. Later troubleshot the wiring and found no issues.
So... I then took the RV to a Ford dealer that could flash/update the firmware in the PCM. I decided to do this rather than just wholesale shotgun the PCM.
Normally the P0358 pending code would come on within 50 miles of resetting the fault. Always came on with the second start cycle with hard fault.
After updating the firmware on the PCM I've put over 300 miles on the engine without a pending code coming up. Transmission shifts are much smoother and there is no lugging or odd power loss.
And no more check engine light with a P0358 code.
A $58 software update corrected the problem.
