So lots of threads sorta related to my problem, but didn't find a good answer so posting here. Have a 1997 351w with 175k manual. Truck has plenty of power when cold, and even when up to temp if not driven for too long. But when it gets "heat soaked" it loses almost all power, more so when I hit the throttle. If I ease into the throttle, it can eventually rev up and make some power, but basically anything other than a flat surface it will struggle severely.
Recently new parts: fuel pump, filter, FPR, air filter, plugs and wires. Any suggestions are appreciated. I don't think I have a vacuum leak. Maybe bad o2 sensor? I can't seem to track down an obd1 reader for cheap...
The only other thing is the previous owner ripped out the air intake hose - its sucking air directly into the filter box right from the engine bay. Could that be why it's running poorly when heat soaked? Guess that's a pretty simple fix but just haven't hauled myself down to the salvage yard yet.
Warm up the engine then run the Key On Engine Off (KOEO) tests and Stored Code display.
Save yourself some headaches and invest in an Equus/Innova 3145 Ford code reader. It's a great investment. Usually runs ~$30 USD these days. Counting the flashes using the paper clip method of pulling codes gets old in a hurry.
