in 79 it was on transmission. i know this. in 76 it was on column. Im using a transmission form a 1976 f150 and want to install the neutral switch on transmission. the bolts holes are there but i dont see grooves for the switch on selector shaft area.
advice anyone?
79 truck? Assuming they're both C6's.,just switch the shift levers. Not that hard of a job with both transmissions out of the vehicles. You will have to remove the pan and the valve body. The nut holding the lever is on the inside.
Yea, sucked trying to find that piece when I decided to swap to a tilt column in my 1973. I ended up spending a pretty penny for a rebuildable core and using the shaft out of it. Bright side I have it now.
I didn't know they ever made a arm without the groove. Why would Ford drill and tap all the cases for the switch and then make 2 different arms? I'm just curious.

yah I would try that. But I need a good photo for clocking the notches. I have no starting point.
Ok, there is an alignment hole on the switch, rotate the center of the switch until you are able to insert a small nail or something about 1/16 inch through the hole. When the switch is centered you can see where the groove needs to be if you index the switch to the mounting holes. I cannot for the life of me remember what gear transmission need to be in. I believe it's neutral. Hopefully someone with a shop manual will be able to tell you.

Sounds like a running change. They started making the cases ready for the switch, but were not ready to change the wiring harness and steering columns just yet. A lot going on in the mid to late seventies!
