I have a high mileage 1995 f150 with the 5.0 mass air. Me and my son are building him a 302 for his 1983 Mustang. The engine we pulled out of his 1983 Mustang, it was carb, super clean inside, less than 100000 miles, ran great.
If I put the long block in my 1995 f150, will the carb cam work with the computer? Will run all the 1995 fuel injection and tin. It will just cost me a gasket set and some time to do this swap.
Curious about the carb cam and computer?
Thanks in advance.
So you want to put the '83 Mustang longblock in the F150 with it's EFI system? That should work, the stock Ford cams weren't very radical even in the Stang, and otherwise it's the same motor.
One issue I see with this is the camshaft and distributor. The 95 truck has a roller cam. If you use the 95 distributor on the 83 camshaft it will eat up the gears.
If you put the 95 roller camshaft into the 83 block you won’t have the bosses for the lifter spiders. You would have to use aftermarket retrofit lifters.
Also remember the roller cam pushrods are shorter.

I have the correct gear off a new non roller distributor. Also have a complete 83 parts engine that we pulled apart years ago sitting in totes in the shop if I need anything extra. Should be getting complete long block rockers and pushrods included since we are putting roller rockers and new pushrods on the mustang engine we are putting in.
Thanks again for the responses. I am more of a big block guy, first 302 I have built.
