Mac, I've never known of anyone who has successfully repair those with a kit. But you tried.
A waste of $35 but I learned how to tear one apart! That Sweeting’s hose kit might have actually been a good upgrade. The pedal stops my truck on a dime now...
I’m loving my BlueTop. I finally got around to swapping the leaking hydroboost I attempted to rebuild. The Motorcraft unit feels much better.
I replaced my hydroboost exactly 1 year ago with a Oreily part and it is leaking from the backside onto the truck floor. I went a head and exchanged it hopefully it last, if not I will buy a ford unit next time.
The hydro boost and master cylinder are two of the items I always recommend getting from Ford.
Believe me I regret not getting it from Ford. It is just hard to swallow loosing $240 on the junk I bought from Oreily. If it goes out again I am buying a Ford unit. Are the Ford units remaned?
One thing to keep in mind is all the non Ford one will likely not have any major new parts.
Where the Ford one are likely to have some new major parts. Thesteering gear is just one
example with the new sector shaft and not a reused one. Now it might me a good idea to ask
if we can find someone that knows what parts are new and what parts are reconditioned.
I purchased the steering box direct from the local Ford dealership. I am very happy with it so far and didn't realize just how much slack the old unit had until driving it with the new one. Thanks to all for the help and advice.
Satisfy my curiosity: Do you Ford mechanics know if the new trucks are still using the same steering box? Looking at the undercarriage of a new truck they appear to retain the same basic setup that was introduced back in 05 with the solid axle, coil springs, and steering box (vs rack & pinoin). Any benefit to upgrading to a newer style box, if even possible? I know the half tons have those goofy electric power steering boxes now but I don't think the superduty's went that way?
