I HAD TO ADD STEERING FLUID SO I GUESSED IT Was the box were do i look for the intercooler inlet?
I took my truck in because it was getting real hard to turn the wheel.
It was diagnosed as a bad/faulty power steering pump. Replaced under warranty, I had purchased an extended Ford ESP when I bought my truck used.
I have not had any issues since.
The part on the intercooler I was talking about is on the driver's side, down low and more or less above the steering box. There's a plastic duct that is clamped onto the plastic tank of the intercooler. You can sort of trace it down by following the plastic pipe at that right angle elbow at the front of the engine. It goes down below the air cleaner and then heads over to the outlet on the intercooler.
I could well be totally off base. All I know is that mine looked that way at first and then I looked above it only to find that it was oil from that intercooler duct. Rule of thumb with oil or hydraulic leaks is to look as far above the leak site as you can go and work your way down.
How low was the fluid? If you topped it up, I'd just keep an eye on it and see if it goes down. Usually the steering boxes will fail at the pitman arm shaft seal, which is right there on the bottom of the box.
