I'm having issues with my fan speed/blower controller. Reading through searched posts, I originally diagnosed the problem as a failed blower motor resistor. Only blew air on high (4 of 4 speed), no air movement on settings 1-3. Replaced resistor and good for last two months. It has now failed once again.
Another failed resistor? All grounds cleaned and secure. Just a bad new resistor? Dont want to just throw money at it, the last resistor was nearly $30. Any one brand/supplier better than others?? TIA
Answered my own question. Moved the truck to a nice shady spot (nearby Autozone parking lot has some amazing shade!), removed the resistor and found an obvious break in 2 resistor coils and failed continuity on the third. Purchased the correct, according to Ford mech on phone, 300*F resistor and installed new one. 4 speeds again!

There is a reason why they are installed in the HVAC box ..... air flow to keep it cool. I wonder if you have low air flow to this resister?
I know on the 80 - 86 trucks leaves & sticks come in thru the cowl and stack up on this HOT resistor and start a fire and once going is vary hard to put out as the fire is inside the HVAC box.
Again on the 80 - 86 trucks pull the blower motor and reach inside and you can pull out hand fulls of crap.
I also took shop air, 175 PSI, and blew it clean. Some dirt did come up the vents inside but small price to pay not to have a camp fire inside the truck.
