Possible Barn Find(s)

Everyone, wish me luck!

I posted an ad online yesterday looking for some 1 piece wheels for my 56 f600. It has widowmakers and I figured (know) someone in my area has an old farm truck or school bus with 6 on 8.75 one piecers. A guy called me and says, "my wife inherited 3 old Fords, I think they are 1940s or 50s, 2 of them run and they are way better looking than the truck you have, one has new tires. I'm selling them for cheap but you can't buy just wheels, have to take one or all of them..." And when he said cheap, I mean CHEAP. Scrap price.

So I'm headed over there in the morning to see what they have. How about an M-H? That'd be something! I'll post pictures if I get a deal done.

Virginia, huh? This sounds like one of those urban legends of trucks squirreled away for years. I’ve hauled a M-H out of a Virginia back yard so maybe it’s your turn. Good luck with it. Stu

Outside Luray in the Valley. If I don't buy all he has, I'll let you know!

No Dice!

Well, this dude's definition of running includes running 12-20 years ago and he forgot to mention I would need 200 feet of chain, a loader, chainsaw, and bear spray! LOL! But that's okay. Had a good bike ride down and back. For those who may be interested, I have his contact info and here's what he has. I am NOT an expert like you all but I'll try and post what pics I could get. One is a 40s F-6 with a flathead. One is an F-5 or 6 maybe with whatever OHV motor was in them, not a 272. One is a early 70s or late 60s with a 312 he said, maybe?, 4 spd 2 split rear with decent dump bed. I didn't take a picture of the 70s ford but it was the "nicest". Sorry. One is an old Dodge maybe good for yard art that isn't in my yard. There's also an old Jeep? truck. Deal is $500 each for the old Fords or $600 for both, and $500 for the 70s dump Ford or all of it including the Jeep pickup for $1100. I suspect $1000 or less would take the whole thing. They are clear up on a mountain and you'll have to have a good winch on your trailer and (seriously) a chainsaw. He told me to give out his number. I was on the bike or I would have tried to get the headlights off one at least. Anyway, let me know if you want his info, I think I have PM privileges now.

Not too exciting was it. I hope it was a nice day for a ride on your bike.

The second pic is a 53-55 FORD truck. Any pics of the outside of that one?

The Jeep J2000 pickup looks interesting if it isn't too rusty underneath. It looks like about a 1971 model. It should have an AMC V-8. Lots of parts available.. The front axle should be a Dana 44 and the rear a Dana 60 if I remember correctly. It should be a 4WD if the badges are correct.

I didn't pay any attention to it really. It was kinda like cheap toilet paper to me, too rough and not very useful. 😀

Well it all depends upon condition but the 1971 Jeep Trucks are pretty rugged, built with good steel thickness. It could be the most valuable piece there.

If anyone is interested in it or anything else in the pictures, they are near Thaxton VA. I can provide the guy's name and number via PM.
