Im not far from you but ill say this, I drove almost 3 hours to buy my truck in Mass, no dealer here in NY could touch the deal I got...not even close. Keep in mind I also ordered a very early 2017 so I guess around here the dealers were thinking take it or leave it.
If youre willing to drive check out Sarat Ford and look up Derrick White. Good people to deal with and I feel a fair deal.
Ill give you the short story when I bought... I went there with the intention of buying 1 of the few 2016 duallys they had, I liked most every thing about the truck and was ready to settle, the business manager came out and talked to me and tore the deal up and wouldn't sell me a truck I wasn't happy with so we sat and I ordered. That being said I will buy every new FORD I can from them. Ive sent a few of my friends over to see them and they've been more than fair to them also.
Im sorry that the deal didn't work out. I will say, you mentioned in another thread recently what rebates were available in you area on a Super Duty. When you listed $1k customer cash I had a feeling you were looking at comercial offers. That is the current commercial incentive, $500 is the retail incentive. So your dealer wasn't screwing you on that. The trade is another story.
How close to invoice were they before rebates and PCO?
The price isn't bad, but to say it only had the 500 off and the Dealer discount was higher, then back out of that just pissed me off. NOT to mention the $459 doc fee and then try to tell me that the RMV is $55 for 1 yr reg/plates when it is $30 is utter bullshiit. And then the trade.
Maybe i will email the owner about the platent theft/lie about RMV fee

I would have to see their numbers to truly understand. Just the misunderstanding about the factory incentive doesn't seem too bad, if their dealer discounted price before rebates was good. That doc fee could be standard for your area and I don't know what the RMV fee is. If its a state or county fee, any over payment would be refunded to you. Generally the state and local taxes and fees are generated by their computer, and not always 100% accurate but overages are refunded to you.
Well i shot an email to the manager. We'll see if anything comes of it.
I'll probably email the guy that i dealt with and see if he can do better on the trade. I was willing to let it go for 19k but no way 15k, I'll keep it..
And yes, doc fees are BS. $75 sure but really thats just stupid.
You're going to run into the doc fee with any dealer, some are more reasonable than others. I was successful making one dealer lower their price by $500 so they could charge me their 'standard' $500 doc fee on paper.
Doc fees in this state are $85, not sure if that is limited by the state but you wont find a dealer that is more than that here, so it might be a legal limit. There must be an average in your state, you say $75 but is that actually a typical doc fee for your area?
What is KBB trade in value on your trade vehicle? Being realistic about its condition.
Lin, I second Sarge's recommendation of Sarat Ford. It's 1.5 hour drive for you but I deal with either Kevin Huges or directly with the owner, Jeff Sarat. They aren't the cheapest but are certainly fair. On top of that, low pressure and straight on the numbers to boot. It's worth a shot for sure but I'd try and get with one of the two guys I mentioned. They might be less "slick" than some of the others in the dealership. If you go, mention Rod. I'm a regular customer there...
As to the doc fees, whatever they have set as their fee, they have to charge. It's MA law that everyone pays the same doc fees at any given dealership... (on paper at least.) As mentioned above, they can always take some of that off on the vehicle end of the deal and it's definitely worth asking. Another way to save on doc fees is to get an XPlan PIN. Then they are capped at $100 and you get approximately invoice pricing without negotiation to boot. You can get an XPlan pin by joining Mustang Club of America or EAA which is the Experimental Aircraft Association. Both are Ford partners. Cost to join is $25 and $40 respectively last time I looked.
Just out of curiosity, who were you trying down at your end of the state? I bought from Quirk Ford ONCE. Never again. My salesman is now their general manager and his style of salesmanship now permeates the entire dealership. Lets keep it polite and just say... um no thank you...

I have to agree with this. There is nothing more I hate than a dealership. The sleezy salesmen, the almost illegal sales tactics, the lies, the smoke & mirrors....
I left 2 dealerships that wanted to give me the run-around...especially on my trade. I finally pulled the X-Plan card on the 3rd dealer, with another $4k in rebates I had. KBB on my trade was $36k, and they offered $28k. I laughed in their face. I spun his computer monitor around, grabbed the keyboard and showed him the numbers myself (boy, they didn't like that). We finally settled on $35k and that was that.
Lin what dealership did you go to? Try Colonial Ford in Plymouth. Ask for Dominic. I have bought three trucks from them and have always beaten all other prices. I can reach out to them if needed.
The doc fees suck. I deal with them by making the doc fee amount about the 2nd question I ask, then on my negotiating scratch paper I add the doc fee to the price of the vehicle. If I'm doing comparison shopping between dealers I always point out a high doc fee makes their vehicle more expensive. Most will pretend to not care. But always look at bottom line - vehicle price + doc fee - trade in (if applicable). Sometimes the dealer with the highest doc fee has the best bottom line price. Go with the best bottom line.
