7 Way Power
Hi All,

I know on these newer trucks the 7 way doesn't have power until the trailer module detects a trailer and you press the brakes. Has anyone found away around it? I would like to have a way to get 12 V power out of the 7 way on occasion without any trailer hooked up.

Do you have upfitter switches? They’re an alternative to +12 from the 7-pin trailer connector.

Another option is to plug in an LED trailer lamp adapter to “fool” the truck:

I do have up fitter switches. I could run another wire back there and go that route for sure.

A benefit to the U/S solution is that you can easily configure #5 and #6 to “Always Hot” and then have power available from either switch without the engine running.

Excellent point, I’m either going to use up fitter or just a boring power point cigarette lighter plug.
