Defective IPR Sensor?

So I recently had my mechanic do a bunch of work on my 2003 6.0. Installed Bulletproof Diesel's heavy-duty remote oil cooler and oil filter. Their cooling kit, which was a new aluminum radiator, a billet water pump, and 7.3 fan clutch. We also installed a new Adrenaline HPOP, and since we were already down there I decided to put in a brand new OEM Motorcraft IPR sensor too. So the truck ran fine for a week, and then left us stranded this weekend. Had it towed to my mechanic, and he determined that the IPR sensor we installed was defective. He did a bunch to troubleshooting and finally came to that conclusion. He reinstalled my old IPR which was working fine, and the truck started without issue, went back to the new IPR, and nothing (He did a bunch of other stuff until he came to this conclusion, as he had never had a new OEM IPR sensor fail, was his last test). So I would agree, but my question is, could there be something upstream that could have damaged the new IPR that we should look into? Note, the truck ran fine before any of the work was done, aside from a random slight (Very slight) rough idle after running for a while. The rough idle was gone for the week following the work and before getting stranded, so I assumed maybe my old IPR may have been dirty or something and with the new one, it was all good. Anyhow, I am returning the new IPR for a new one, to reinstall again (Even though the old one works, it is the original one and I would rather take care of it now instead of later.). Just wondering if something else could have killed the sensor, or was I just unlucky and got a defective one. Any thoughts?

Nope, no obvious damage that I could tell. Just drove it back an hour from his shop with the old IPR sensor and all good so far. So I guess time will tell after I put the replacement back in.

Put in the new IPR sensor, so far so good, but it has only been a weekend. Last time it failed after week, so we will see.
