I am doing rear brakes on the wife's 2013 explorer. I need to know which side of the rotor these pads go on. The old pads were worn so bad,I couldn't tell which side was which. Which side of the rotor does the pad with the wear indicator go on?
That's interesting that both the inboard and outboard pads are different, both in chamfer as well as the groove.
It appears that the pad without the groove has a "squealer" warning device. If so, that typically would go on the outboard pad. So if there are no directions stating which goes where, and assuming the backing plates both have the little indexing pins for the parking brake feature of the piston, I'd put the pad with the groove against the piston and the pad with the squeal device in the outboard location.
