94 ford f250 351w. Did these engines come with a roller or flat tappet cam? Do i need a zinc additive with my oil? Exhaust has no cats.

Mixed bag in 94. Good chance you have either. Zinc won't hurt for sure.

By 94, you should be rollin'.

To confirm, look for a F4TE casting number on your block...

Thanks yall. I have the F4TE block. Does this automatically mean i have a roller cam? If that doesnt confirm it is there a way to confirm without pulling apart the motor

Yank the dizzy and determine if the gear is cast iron or steel. Only roller cams got steel gears.

You can also pull the valve cover. Loosen the rocker, and measure pushrod. Roller cams had longer pushrod. Someone can tell you the length. I dont have the number off hand.

Also if you are adventurous, you could probably stick a borescope camera into the intake valley through the distributor hole then through the oil return hole or maybe IAT sensor port or the like and look for the lifters retaining "spider". That would be a dead-giveaway for a true roller.

You mean shorter pushrods. Roller lifters are longer so...

And you don't even have to measure it, just shine a light down the pushrod hole and look for the dogbone around the lifter, if they are present it's a roller motor.

Thanks for catching that Conaski.

I have both flat tappet and roller cam engines. I missed that when I replied.

Has anyone seen a '94 with an F4TE block with a flat tappet cam that wasn't a Lightning?

I've seen a bunch of '94's with flat tappet blocks and flat tappet cams, but never one that was mixed (not including Lightnings obviously).
