I am planning on going on a cross country trip in the middle of July to visit family and the total miles I put on my truck will be about 5000 miles. I plan on having the oil changed, all fluids checked, and all spark plugs checked. Is there anything else I should have checked before I go on this trip?
The engine should handle it fine. Change air filter, check tires, check battery, belts, brakes, etc. Maybe check for codes before you leave “just in case”
The more you look, the more you’ll find though.....
Along with the oil change, definitely check the Tire pressure. Top off washer fluid. If serviceable battery - top off with distilled water. A/C charged up and cooling good?
I just took a 2,000 mile trip to NC and GA and back to FL to spend some time at a couple different cabins in the woods. The only thing I did before leaving was top off the washer fluid and took my 1/2" cordless impact in case I got a flat along the way. Never checked the oil, it never uses enough to even register a change....it was still full when I got home two weeks later.
7 years old and 96,000 miles, I wouldn't hesitate doing a longer trip with the same preparation. No issues and no worries.
