I'd be leery of sending the unit back in for repair. I have a buddy who fried a 6A; MSD was very accomodating and offered to repair the unit for free even though it was out of warranty. Took a couple of weeks. He puts the unit back in; no worky. Frustrates the heck out of himself going through everything because he knows the MSD box has to be good; it's just been repaired, right?
Finally gave up and took his truck to a mechanic. The guy just hooked the stock ignition back up and everything was fine. Of course my buddy had to swallow a lot of ribbing about high dollar aftermarket parts. He ended up buying a new unit and was good to go. I think Greg went the right direction.
We'll see. Sounds like it could still be the coil, since my diagnostic technique assumed there to be +V at the +input to the coil if the MSD is on. I still think ithe MSD is the most likely victim with a short at the + input to the coil.
Replaced the 6al with the new unit. She's running again. Gave me a hard time getting the timing back in place. Likes to backfire through the carb sometimes now??
Also , these Edel Chrome valve covers and the cork Fel-Pro gaskets are hard to seal. I keep getting oil all over my pretty headers.

Never saw an FE (only three or four) that didn't like to backfire out the carb when cold. Maybe not enough accel pump.
You might just have too much oil up top ... but with rocker shafts, too much might not be enough
I really boogered up the valve cover gasket on the last install...straightened it out and it's better. I'm still going to order some of the newer style Fel-Pros, unless somebody reccomends another brand.
I have found the rubber ones are the best with new covers that are straight. On the old covers that have been beat up a bit the cork seem to make the seal.
