Dying fuel pump?

I hear this funny rattle noise when my 390 is cold, sounds like a bunch of ball-bearings rattling on sheet metal.... Sorta. Any ideas?? Thanks

Take all the belts of and start it up. It is probably an accessory like the alternator going out. Don't run it long without the water pump belt.

All that stuff like the alternator,water pump and power steering are in excellent shape. The fuel pump is pretty questionable.... I took it off my long dead 1970 camper special

They will sound like a sticky lifter sometimes but not like you described. Does it sound like a torque converter nut may be hitting the engine plate?

Sounds like a sticky lifter with a sorta quit rattle noise mixed... LIke a lifter that rattles a bit as well. If that makes sense?

I don't know about the torque converter nut rattling noise. never heard it before.

Reading back the first description sounds pretty scary
